COURSE OBJECTIVES
To introduce students to the principles and working strategies of integrated pest management (IPM). To acquaint students with basic, sound, turf management cultural practices. Many of the management strategies for pests refer to these cultural practices. Each pest is presented to the student in a way that describes its biology, normal habitat, identifying features, and management strategies. Pests are group according to their normal seasonal appearance or other similar diagnostic features. Students will learn to identify both biotic and abiotic turf maladies. They will gain an understanding of how to treat each problem and minimize future occurrences. To identify and develop management strategies to correct pest problems and minimize their reoccurrence. To present methods of pesticide application, equipment used and its maintenance. Students will gain an understanding of equipment calibration and calculating pesticide requirements and areas.

GRADING:            

Grades will be based upon three hour exams and a final exam. Four hour exams are scheduled over the semester. Students may drop the lowest hour exam score. Total course grade is based upon percentage of points obtained. The weighting of each individual graded unit is detailed below:

Lab exercises and quizzes 5 %
Final exam 35%

Overall course grades will be adjusted upward based upon class performance or the new University scale will be used.
