COURSE OBJECTIVE
To develop an understanding of turfgrass growth, development, and adaptation, cultural
practices used to manage turfgrasses, pest problems, and establishment methods. Further,
students are expected to learn the various grasses used in turfgrass management and to
understand the strengths and weaknesses of these grasses. Finally, students need to gain
an understanding of the complexity involved in managing turfgrasses at an intensive
management level.

GRADING: Grades will be based upon two hour exams, a final
exam, a weed collection and two lab exams. Total course grade is based upon percentage of
points obtained. The weighting of each individual graded unit is detailed below:

Lab exams 2 @ 10 % 20%
Lab reports 5%
Final exam 30%
Overall course grades in Hort 236 will be based upon the new
University scale.
