Turfgrass species: Tour: Intended function of the turf

function Home or Park Lawn

Average Quality Species | Top Quality Species

While many turfgrass species are adapted to either extreme of intended use, the adaptation of most turfgrass species lie somewhere in the middle. The adaptation required for a home, park, or general grounds lawn would provide a reasonably dense uniform turf and could withstand a minimal amount of use or traffic under a medium level of management.

In some instances, the lawn may be required to be of exceptional or top aesthetic quality but not require a high degree of utility. Species which provide an average level of quality under medium maintenance are listed under the average category.

Those species which are adapted to a top or high level of aesthetic quality with medium to medium-to-high levels of maintenance are listed under a top category.
