Turfgrass species

pH
Soil reaction or pH can limit the
adaptation or optimum growth of selected turf grass species. In general, most turfgrass
species will provide adequate to optimum growth when the soil pH is between 6.5 and 7.2.
Soil amendments, such as elemental
sulfur and limestone may be incorporated to help adjust the native pH. Many soils,
however, might require excessive amounts of amending materials. It is therefore useful to
select a turfgrass species which shows the best adaptation to either acidic or basic
conditions.
