Introduction to location grouping
Many grass species adapted to one turfgrass environment, potentially, could be grown anywhere throughout the United States. High maintenance costs limit the usefulness of growing a species out of its optimum zone of adaptation, even though modern turf culture continues to extend the useful range of several species. This portion of the lesson will help to illustrate grass species that are best adapted to various locations throughout the United States.
The following map presents the five major regions of adaptation for turfgrasses in the United States. Simply click on any region to provide a listing of the species which are best adapted for that area. When you have completed exploring how grass species are grouped according to location, go back and choose another type of index.
